- Everyone matters.
- You are not alone.
- You are more than you know.
- The awful thing is not the final word.
- Today is all we have and today is enough.
- We need each other.
Here you are and I'm glad that you stopped by. These are fast moving times so I'll understand if you're rushed, but you are cordially invited to stay awhile.
- Peace,
- Steve

Quotation
Someone complained to Meister Eckhart that no one could understand his sermons. He said, "To understand my sermons, a person requires three things. They must have conquered strife and be in contemplation of their highest good and be satisfied to do God's bidding and be a beginner with beginners and naught themselves and be so master of themselves as to be incapable of anger." Cod. Monac. Germ., 365, Fol. 192b.
Meister Eckhart Home Page
I have read and enjoyed Meister Eckhart for quite some time now so I have undertaken translation of "original" writings. This link is to the pages in which I publish the results of these efforts. I look forward to hearing your comments about this project.
I was blessed to have been formed within the community of the Episcopal Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in Pelham, Alabama. A community of individuals living in common in the Gospel imperative. Unconditional love and acceptance, fine liturgy, and service to others -- all in servanthood to Christ. SOME EXCELLENT SITES FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION:
In addition to my profession as an architectural and structural consultant, in October of 2004 I was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons in the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama. My current parish assignments are St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Montevallo and Trinity Episcopal Church in Clanton. For more information about the diaconate, I would commend you to the North American Association for the Diaconate.
As I strive to find balance in my life, I have been increasingly drawn to the principles, values, disciplines, and spiritual tools of Benedictine spirituality. I have been admitted as an Associate of the Order of the Holy Cross in West Park, New York and live under The Associate's Rule which is a commitment to center my life in the basic values of Benedictine spirituality. Among these are: Community, Hospitality, Humility, Balance, and Mindfulness. I have also been blessed by my spiritual director at Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman, Alabama who has helped me both clarify and stay focused within my rule of life.
My diaconal ministry to the world is to support and facilitate the formation of nonviolent communities of peace and reconciliation. Creative PeaceMaking: Training for Personal & Social Transformation is a nonviolence formation program offered by the Episcopal Peace Fellowship and is adapted from a versatile curriculum on the spirituality and practice of active nonviolence called "From Violence to Wholeness" which is designed and readily shared by the Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service. Its holistic approach is directed toward nonviolent personal, interpersonal and social transformation.
I also serve as the Diocesan Jubilee Officer for the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama. Jubilee Ministry was first envisioned by then Presiding Bishop John Hines as what was described as an organizing principle for understanding and interpreting Christian ministry. The mission of Jubilee Ministry is to make a direct and dynamic link between our theology and our ethics - said another way - the talk of our faith and the walk of our faith. As Christians we do this by calling the church to live out its prophetic of empowering local people to "do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with their god" (Micah 6:8) and by responding to the Gospel's call to "feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked care for the sick, and visit the imprisoned" (Matthew 25:35).
My daughter is a student-athlete (Government major / Ethics minor) and plays intercollegiate volleyball as a setter for Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. In high school she was a varsity setter at Pelham High School in Pelham, Alabama. She also set for the power teams at Sojourners' and later for Birmingham Volleyball Club. In addition, she had the opportunity in 2000 and 2001 to attend the Sports Performance Elite Setter Camp and Setter Academy (if a junior volleyball player aspires to excel at their position, these are without a doubt the camps to attend). If you would like information about Volleyball in the United States, this link to USA Volleyball will provide you with a lot of information.
During the summer of 1996 my daughter had the privilege of participating in the People to People Student Ambassador Program representing the United States and the State of Alabama in Western Europe. Over a period of three weeks she traveled to England, France, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. It was a wonderful experience and opportunity for both her and the other young people with whom she shared the trip.
Welcome to Savannah! I love this city. Savannah enjoys a unique blend of history, Southern charm and unrivaled hospitality that make it a jewel nestled along the South Atlantic coast. If you have the chance, go and enjoy the blessing of each day in what truly is one of the most beautiful cities in the country. It is a great place to practice holy leisure as you "laze and gaze".
